Dr Kevin Wernli

Bachelor of Physiotherapy | PhD Low Back Pain

Kevin is a physiotherapist with a PhD in low back pain. His PhD investigated how movement, posture, and psychological factors relate to low back pain (supervised by A/Prof. Peter Kent, Prof. Peter O’Sullivan, Prof. Anne Smith, and A/Prof. Amity Campbell).

Kevin brings an evidence-informed approach to the management of musculoskeletal pain (with a particular interest in spinal pain). Spending over five years working alongside world-leading clinical researchers Professor Peter O’Sullivan and Dr JP Caneiro (PhD), Kevin uses a holistic approach to help understand the variety of factors that are known to contribute to pain. This type of ‘mind/body’ approach aims to help you make sense of why you hurt, provide you with practical strategies to help control your pain, and help address any lifestyle factors that may be relevant in your presentation, with the ultimate goal of empowering you to get back to living for good.

He is also passionate about closing the evidence to practice gap (reported to be 17 years) by producing infographics, videos, and a top-rated podcast with world-renowned guests and patient advocates (called Empowered Beyond Pain). He also lectures at Curtin University, supervises research, and is the co-founder of a digital health start-up called Matilda which helps provide affordable access to holistic care for people with confirmed or suspected endometriosis.

Outside of his career passions, Kevin enjoys the outdoors, the ocean, camping, videography, and spending time with friends and family.
